Hair Thinning Leeds
Causes & Treatment Options

Hair thinning affects both men and women – and for many people it has a significant impact on confidence and self-image. While not all causes of hair loss are treatable with aesthetic interventions, androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair thinning) and several other common causes respond well to the treatments available at Dr Sebastian Bejma Aesthetics.

What Causes Hair Thinning?

Androgenetic alopecia
The most common cause, driven by genetic sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). In men it typically presents as a receding hairline and crown thinning; in women as diffuse thinning across the top of the scalp.
Telogen effluvium
Diffuse shedding triggered by stress, illness, nutritional deficiency, or hormonal change. Often temporary.
Nutritional deficiency
Iron, ferritin, vitamin D, and zinc deficiencies can all contribute to hair thinning.
Hormonal changes
Thyroid dysfunction, post-pregnancy, and menopause are common triggers in women.
Alopecia areata
An autoimmune condition causing patchy hair loss, which requires specialist management.

Treatments at Dr Sebastian Bejma Aesthetics

PRP & PRF
Platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin use the patient’s own growth factors to stimulate hair follicle activity and support healthier hair growth. Published evidence supports their use in androgenetic alopecia, with improvements in hair density and thickness over a course of treatment.
Polynucleotides
Polynucleotides have a growing published evidence base for androgenetic alopecia. Injected into the scalp, it supports the follicular environment and stimulates tissue repair processes associated with healthier hair growth. Can be used alongside PRP/PRF or as a standalone treatment.
Hair Transplant (Surgical)
For patients with significant hair loss where non-surgical treatments are insufficient, hair transplant surgery – FUE (follicular unit extraction) or FUT – remains the most effective option for restoring hair in areas of significant thinning or loss. This is not performed at Dr Sebastian Bejma Aesthetics but is discussed at consultation where it may be the most appropriate recommendation.
