Types of Acne Scarring
The two main categories are:
Atrophic scars
Depressed scars that sit below the skin surface. Within this category: ice pick scars (deep and narrow), boxcar scars (wider with defined edges), and rolling scars (broad, wave-like depressions).
Hypertrophic scars
Raised, thickened scars caused by excess collagen production during healing. Less common in acne than atrophic scarring.

Microneedling
Collagen induction therapy effective for mild to moderate atrophic scarring. Can be combined with PRP, PRF, skin boosters, or peels for enhanced results.
Chemical Peels / BioRePeel
Resurface the skin to improve texture and stimulate skin renewal. Most effective for surface-level irregularity and post-inflammatory pigmentation rather than deep atrophic scars.
Polynucleotides
Stimulate tissue repair and regeneration, improving skin quality and supporting the remodelling of scar tissue over a course of treatment.
Dermal Filler
For individual depressed scars – particularly rolling scars – small amounts of filler can be placed beneath the scar to lift and level the surface.
Surgical Excision
For isolated deep scars – particularly ice pick scars – surgical excision or punch techniques can be effective where non-surgical approaches are insufficient. This is discussed at consultation where relevant.
